These are examples of deletions because they lack detail. It isn’t clear. How much more money? In what way ‘better’? Agree about what exactly? How do you want to be recognised? Be specific!
Write down a compelling outcome that you’d like to work on right now.
Here are some good questions to ask yourself about your compelling outcome.
How much do you want this goal? Score 1-10
How important is it to you? Score 1-10
What will it mean to you to have it?
What else will it enable you to do?
Our goal needs to be simple in that there can be no ambiguity about it so that we know exactly what it is we want and know when it is achieved.
Are you visual, auditory and kinaesthetic (see Chapter 1)? Let’s express our goal in our preferred way.
If you prefer images, paint a picture in your mind of what you want. Put yourself in the picture and make it bright and clear with all the elements in the picture that will make your vision compelling.
If you focus more on what you hear, imagine what people will be saying about you and what you are saying when you have achieved your goal.
Kinaesthetics will want to feel their vision so imagine how you will feel and how others will feel about it. Think about what you will be doing in your vision.
Do you need to reword your compelling outcome?
Referring now to your preferred Meta programme(Chapter 2) your vision needs to be ‘towards’ rather than ‘away from’ so word your vision as something positive that you do want not something you want to avoid.
It needs to be internally referenced and tie in with your own values and beliefs rather than satisfying what others expect or want of you (externally referenced).
It should be proactive, something you can instigate and control rather than one that relies on others to achieve.
If you tend to think broad brush (big chunk) you will have a goal that lacks detail so think about bringing in some detail into your thinking and the wording of your vision so that it is more specific and therefore easier to measure.
Measuring progress towards your goal is important and this can be done using an NLP time line but first I want to tell you how to do an NLP anchoring technique because you’ll need it in this exercise.
Anchoring
What we want to do is establish a physical action that will be associated with a feeling in much the same way as Pavlov’s dogs learn to associate a bell with being fed.
First decide what action you want to use as your anchor. Some people like to put their thumb and first finger together like this.
